    Very good

The location of this hotel is wonderful, with river walks, various museums and the unspoilt estate buildings and area.

The hotel has rooms which vary between a travelodge or a luxury hotel but the catering is more pub-grub than gastro' a good place for a short break - once, but expensive.

    Very good

We found the hotel to be informal and relaxing. Location was beautiful with plenty to do in close proximity.

Very special and quirky hotel with great staff and beautiful location.

    Great location

Website is a little misleading as gives the imnpression all the hotel is old, and yet most of the rooms are in a new modern wing.

The location is amazing, food very nice, even the bar menu was great.

The room was not very clean I'm afraid and very very warm with a winter duvet on the bed in June. Also personally I thought it was more of a theme hotel and I just didn't get it... So sort to speak. But that is just a personal taste of course.

    Fabulous

The rooms are lovely & views superb... Staff were generally good if a little inexperienced in the resturant. The food menu was a little limited, starters & main courses were nice deserts were poor, over all I would say the resturant was over priced for what was provided, especially the wine list very pricey. For the prices service & food should have been better, overpriced by probably 30%!

Location & rooms superb, public areas nice as well, good breakfast.

    Very good

Travelled as a family of three and stayed in a double room in The Henry Adam's Wing. Room was rather small for two adults and a child and we found the room to be very warm (with the window open!). Details in the room were appreciated - selection of drinks, facilities in bathroom (great shower!) and bed was very comfortable. Liked being able to have breakfast in our room though choice was limited. We ate in the bar and found the food to be of a very high standard. Bar was very busy though and having to queue for food and drinks together rather held up the meal - food ordering only section would be good a busy times. Hotel itself is lovely, well kept grounds and good amenities. The lounge for residents was just lovely - very relaxing space to sit and read. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would visit again but we have recently stayed in hotels and B&B's which offered just as high standards for a lot less money. Have already recommended the hotel to friends and family as it makes a great base for exploring the New Forest. May be a good idea to note on website that cycle hire needs to be booked a day in advance, possibly through the website.

Didn't dislike anything but do feel that the bar could be better run for the large amount of people eating there and that the room temperatures could be managed better. The extra bed provided for our child was not very comfy and took up a lot of space in a small room.

Stunning location, friendly and very helpful staff. Food and service very good.

Sometimes had to wait at the bar when busy.

    Superb

Fantastic location and accessible to both rural and seaside locations. Food was very good and value for money on what we paid. Would have no hesitation in staying again

One slight quibble was the size of the room we stayed in was exactly 'family' size

the staff were very attentive,,good rooms, good service, very good location for our needs,

thier could have been more on the plate for breakfast

The location was great, nice and seculded which gave us time to relax. The hotel itself was lovely, the room was really nice.

    Superb

Very good hotel at nice location in the countryside.Rooms were very nice as well.Personnel friendly.

2 topics with some improvement possible although I was there at low-season is that there was no breakfast possible before 8AM and that the reception was also not open before 8AM(in order to call for taxi,..)

Setting and the views from the restaurant and gardens

Room too hot and stuffy. Room extremely noisy from the car park and early deliveries. No chef available for breakfast one morning until after 9am.

  • 8.2
    Fabulous

Its ambience, surroundings and history all combine to make a stay here a memorable one.

The lateness of the dining room booking - on check-in, guests should not find they could miss out on a dinner booking.
